Dumb and Dumberest
Here's a short extract from an encounter i had with two malay teenage boys while book browsing at Marina Square.
Lets just name them Mohammad and Abdul for simple identification. (just in case they stumble and read this, we mustn't compicate things for their comprehension)
Anyway, Mohammad walks in while i'm browsing 'yakuza moon' and picks up some love advice novels next to me and starts rummaging through the pile and points to the girl in their group telling how wonderful reads those titles were.
Mohammad: i tell you ah, these are damn good books!
Abdul picks up a pretty worn looking book titled something like '85 ways to get someone to love you' and then starts talking in my direction. (obviously to me since his friends were on the other side)
Abdul: wow, nice book sia? do i need it? i don't think i need it lah. but i think you need it!
Dong: yea i can see why you're not getting it, they don't sell these in simplified versions do there?
Mohammad: i tell you ah, this is damn good book! (notice thats the identical line from above)
Dong: so i see you HAVE bought and read it!
now there was this akward stare of puzzlement on their faces which i'm pretty sure would have cracked anyone up, but i'm seriously surprised at how well i contained my laughter.
Dong: Maybe you'd like to check out that section instead! (pointing to the children's section)
