and so, i just came back from the supposedly LAST family gathering since the only remaining LINK that holds this family together has been buried 6 feet under.

yea, its really dumb. 2 old folks, 8 children, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grand children. u must really imagine this family to be tight and really happy.

but no. its like a blessing that the family gets to meet 3 times a years. and its really dumb cos its the adults that are causing riffs in this family. they see each other once a yr, then argue, and dont talk till the next yr, then they re nice siblings all over again...

irony is the younger people like me and my cuz actually make efforts to hang out...

anyway, one to something more inportant.
today was my grandad's funeral.
well, to be honest, sometimes i feel my relationship with my granddad revolved arnd words like "have u have lunch?", "do u study hard?", "have u been a good boy?" and "ha ha ha, ha ni de tou!" (i phrase that echo in my mind fresh forever :)

but no, i guess i really have a deep rooted relationship with my grandad. and its weird the way we bond. jst hearing stories about this brave man who came from china at a young tender age to seek a good life in Nanyang from my parents and also relatives can make me feel so attached to my grandpa.

a man of virtue and he is indeed a man whom i respect deeply.

and it is nt that i havent had any interaction with him at all. the memories of a time when he was fit and healthy during my childhood days still remain fresh in my mind. I rmb his old wrinkly face as he tried funnily to communicate with me. It is really said how the past 4 yrs sort of drew us apart when he suffered from dementia. Seeing him suffer in bed pains me at times. And im glad the good lord had mercy and has taken him to a land that is eternally blissful.

surprising during the procession today, i never thought i d shed a tear. but i did.
not a tear, but i sobbed... and so did cuz coral and so many others. coral even broke down halfway during the eulogy reading.
i guess, its times like these where we can see how much of an impact grandad has left on us and how much we love him although we hardly ever had a chance to express it.

grandpa i love you.
rest in peace.
may God bless ur soul.

thank you for being a great man
thank you for being a great husband
thank you for being a great father
thank for you for being a great grandpa

in loving memory,
Grandpa Thomas Tong Kai Sieng

RIP
